Quaker State 400

QUAKER STATE 400

Starting in 2011, the Quaker State 400 available at Walmart is one of the longest running race entitlements currently in NASCAR’s premier series – the NASCAR Cup Series.. The first 10 years of the entitlement ran at Kentucky Speedway, with the event moving to Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2021.

2022 marked the 12th year for the race with some exciting changes following Atlanta Motor Speedway’s major configuration of the 1.54-mile track following the 2021 season. The track was not only resurfaced for the first time since 1997, but added more banking all around for improved racing action to coincide with this year’s debut of the NASCAR NEXT GEN race car. The impact was immediate with record lead changes, tight pack racing, and bump drafting – elements unseen at a 1.5-mile track before. Ultimately the intense racing came down to an exciting last lap pass with 2020 NASCAR Champion Chase Elliott (No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports) taking the checkered flag in the 2022 Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart.

Interestingly, in 12 versions of the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway, 11 of the races have been won by a current or former NASCAR Cup Series Champion. The lone outlier was the event in 2020 that was captured by rookie driver Cole Custer.
